Collection: Grandma's Flower Garden (and other Hexies)

Grandmother's Flower Garden quilts call to mind the 1930s (and onward), but actually, the English Paper Piecing technique used to create these beauties has been part of the quilter's lexicon since the 18th century.

Flower Garden quilts typically have a white background, and consist of one yellow center, with a tier of solid hexies surrounded by another tier of hexies in prints, usually feedsack.  Sometimes the flowers were surrounded by green hexies or diamonds, other times not.   I love finding Grandmother Flower Garden quilts with either fussy-cut hexies, or border hexies that aren't green, or even non-muslin backgrounds.
