Japan Craft Tour May 2027 Early Bird Deposit

This is a small-group, craft-centered cultural journey, not a general sightseeing tour. It is also a shared group experience, meaning that while we work really hard to take personal preferences into account, not all are guaranteed.

The heart of the experience is hands-on workshops, studio visits, and meaningful connection with Japanese artisans.

Workshops may include temari, yubinuki, sashiko, indigo dyeing (Tokushima), knitting, wagashi-making, furoshiki wrapping, weaving, kumihimo, and more. Final offerings may vary based on artisan availability and group interests.

Walking & Daily Pace: Even with private transportation throughout the tour, daily life in Japan involves walking. Guests should be comfortable with:

• Up to ~10,000 steps per day

• Stairs, slopes, and uneven surfaces

• Occasional standing during workshops and visits

• A steady, moderate group pace

Transportation: All ground transportation is arranged in advance and provided as a group, including:

• Private hired vehicles for transfers and sightseeing

• Green Car (First Class) Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto

• The full-day trip to Tokushima

• One local train trip with a transfer.

Meals & Food Expectations: Food is an important part of cultural immersion in Japan. Meals may include ramen, sushi (including raw fish), tempura, curry, soba and udon, yakitori, donburi, shabu-shabu, eel, bento lunches, and artisan-recommended local restaurants.

Please note:

• Japan approaches dietary restrictions differently than we do in the U.S.
  

• Vegan, Halal, Kosher, and strict Gluten-Free meals cannot be guaranteed
  

• Menu substitutions and avoiding cross-contamination is often not possible

We encourage guests to research Japanese cuisine in advance and consider their own dietary flexibility. We absolutely will do our best within local limitations.
