Collection: Crazy Quilts & String Quilts

Crazy quilts seem to have no rhyme or reason; the shapes are all mis-matched, as are the fabrics. Some crazy quilts feature silks and wools, and have wonderful surface embroidery joining the pieces.  Others are done in cotton are are pieced together in a more traditional sense.

String quilts consist of very narrow strips of fabric strung (or pieced) side by side. This type of quilting became popular during the Great Depression as it allowed women to use every single scrap of fabric they had.  The groupings of the strung together pieces were then sometimes cut into shapes like stars, or sashed with crosses.
